Hard Mode is an unlockable feature in Five Nights at Wario's 3. It is unlocked by completing the game. Hard Mode cannot be toggled in between nights, but it can be toggled on/off at any time before starting the game; this means that a player can play Night 1 on normal mode, then set the difficulty to Hard Mode the next time they play the game for later nights, should they get a Game Over or quit the game at any time. On version 2.0, the selection was removed from the extras and moved to the new game screen, along with a selection of normal or hard mode, and is no longer able to be turned on or off in the extras. Beating Hard Mode unlocks the Dollar Vision skin in the Daytime Quest.

Changes[]

Compared to the normal difficulty, Hard Mode drastically alters several key mechanics:

  • The camera battery drains much faster, and takes noticeably longer to recharge. This also applies to the night vision mechanic used in Night 5. This makes rooms that force the player to rely on the camera to survive, much more difficult to beat.
  • All characters are much more aggressive with this setting enabled.
  • Similarly to the camera, the music boxes in the Playroom wind down faster and take longer to wind back up.

Trivia[]

  • Some rooms are debatably impossible to legitimately clear under Hard Mode, such as Living Room 2 and Bedroom 2, as the combination of Hard Mode's changes can leave players running out of camera power far too quickly to protect themselves. However, both are possible, albeit pretty difficult.
  • The drastically increased aggression in the characters can be easily seen even in Night 1, where Wario moves between rooms so quickly that it can almost seem as if he is teleporting.
  • This is the only game in the series to feature a Hard Mode. However, Five Nights at Wario's: Origins does contain an unlockable Custom Night.
